Description: It is one of the commonest freshwater fishes found in the local freshwaters. It has a slightly elongated and laterally compressed body with a pointed head and a pair of large eyes. A pair of barbels found on its upper jaw of mouth terminal. The adults have a high-arched back. It is characterized by 5 to 7 distinctive dark vertical bars on its yellowish body.
